Where can you host your sing-along?

Where can you host your sing-along?

The short answer to this question is – anywhere you like! There really are endless locations which would be good to host a free sing-along. Here are some suggestions to get you thinking:

During the warmer months

Parks and green spaces – these areas are free to use and can accommodate groups with lots of open space for everyone.

Practical details

  • You may want to choose a spot that has shade, perhaps under a tree.
  • If you are meeting in a large park where you won’t obviously be seen from the entrances then you might want to choose a spot near an obvious park landmark.
  • Be careful of locations near water or any other hazard. You want the event to be relaxing for families, not stress inducing as they try to keep little explorers away from danger.
  • Let people know if there are no bathroom facilities in the area. In our experience it isn’t a deal breaker for most people on attending but it’s good to let families know in advance.
  • How stroller or access friendly is your location? You want to be inclusive not only of stollers, but of community members with mobility issues.

Children’s playgrounds

If you have a children’s playground near you it can be a great location. The bonus of using a space like this is that older kids can join and work off some energy while the younger ones groove so it’s a great family location.

Practical details

  • Depending on the layout you may need to be careful of where you set up so you don’t get children jumping off of the equipment right into your circle!
  • You may want to choose a spot that has shade, perhaps under a tree of if it has a shade cover.

During the colder months

Libraries –

The original Mulberry Bush Sing-Along started in a library, in their children’s room. If your library has a quiet space this is a great location as they usually have parking, they are kid friendly and they may be able to help spread the word about your group.

Churches or Community Spaces

Churches/religious centers or community spaces are great places to host as they usually have the space and amenities for group gatherings.

*Please Note*

We do not recommend hosting the sing-along at your home unless it is a closed event with a small group of people you know well. The winter time can be a difficult time for sickness, so hosting large groups in your home can put your family at extra risk from all those stomach bugs or flu going around. Plus a fun sing-along is enjoyable for the organizers as well as the participants. If you are running around the house frantically putting away toys before people arrive, chances are you will approach the event with dread rather than joy.
